Subaru, a Japanese automobile manufacturing division of Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI) and are known for their use of a boxer engine layout in most vehicles above 1,500cc and uses its signature Symmetrical All Wheel Drive full-time all-wheel drive layout since 1972. Both engine and drivetrain became standard equipment in all of Subaru’s mid-size and smaller cars by 1996 and is now standard in most North American market models, except for the BRZ. Subaru also offers turbocharged versions of their passenger cars, such as the Impreza WRX and the Legacy 2.5GT. The 2.5XT trims of the Outback and Forester also include a turbocharged engine.
Subaru is the Japanese name for the Pleiades star cluster M45, or "The Seven Sisters" (one of whom tradition says is invisible – hence only six stars in the Subaru logo), which in turn inspires the logo and alludes to the companies that merged to create FHI.
Subaru Tecnica International or STi is Fuji Heavy Industries' motorsports division. STI, along with Prodrive of the UK specialized in the preparation of a variety of vehicles for the Subaru World Rally Team, which competed in the World Rally Championship (WRC).
Subaru claims to have implemented advanced policies, which include recycling, reducing harmful emissions, and educating their employees. Models like the BRZ, XV, Levorg, Forester, WRX, WRX STI, and Outback use highly recyclable materials throughout the vehicle, in the engine, transmission, suspension and elsewhere in each vehicle leaving Subaru with a 97.3% recycling ratio rate for their end-of-life vehicles.
